Arbutus, Vancouver is a neighborhood near the downtown core but managed to keep its neighborhood feel.
With its tree-lined streets, heritage homes, quiet neighbourhood parks and incredible North Shore views, it makes it a popular neighborhood for people to move to. Within the neighborhood you have easy access to the University of British Columbia, Kistilano, Pacific Regional Park, and Jericho beach, as well as local shopping.
Arbutus, Vancouver is mostly made up of single family homes with mixed in townhomes and a few condominiums. The majority of the homes built in the area were between 1946 and 1960 due to the spillover need for housing in the Dunbar area including the additional demand from the 1905 construction of the street car line from Vancouver to Steveston.
The neighborhood boasts many green spaces including Trafalgar Park and Carnarvon Park. It also includes several off-leash parks for dogs and long jogging/walking paths throughout the neighborhood. On the boundaries of Arbutus, you also get two community centres that are nearby: Dunbar and Kerrisdale.
Shopping and Restaurants:
Throughout the neighborhood, you’ll see small avenues of retail shopping and restaurants that allow the neighborhood to feel like a “true” one.
The neighborhood is witnessing massive appreciation of the years due to its location. It also will inhibit a north-south transportation corridor called the Arbutus Greenway. This will connect people, parks, and places from False Creek to the Fraser River. It will reimagine a historic rail corridor and will provide a high-quality, very accessible public space ideal for walking, cycling and rolling. The Greenway will be a destination that fosters both movement within the neighborhoods and richer social interaction. The Arbutus Greenway is currently being planned and designed with a temporary path already constructed to allow people to enjoy the space and explore the corridor prior to completion.
