Dunbar, Vancouver is full of residential streets lined with grand old trees and local parks.

It’s easy access to both downtown and Vancouver Airport makes it a prime location to live in. It’s bordered by West 16th avenue to the North, West 41st Avenue to the south, to the west by Pacific Spirit Park and Quesnel Drive and Blenheim Street to the east.

 

Housing:

The neighborhood, Dunbar, consists of mainly single-family homes and in the early 1990’s started to introduce low rises and rental suites. Due to the popularity of the area, there has been a constant push for higher density zoning to allow fore more people to live in the area. Therefore, the main corridors of the area will be lined with low-rise condos with commercial units on the bottom. In the mid-1920’s the first significant land development in the area occurred and some of those homes still stand today. 1922 zoning bylaws stated that homes be well situated back on their lots, hence why some homes remain as neighborhood landmarks. Further developments took place in the years following World War II and then again in the early 1970’s when Salish Park and King Edward Place were developed.

Shopping:

Dunbar Village shopping area hosts many local businesses to give the area a village-like feel. It includes restaurants, coffee shops, marketplaces, as well as the Dunbar Theatre. This is located along 16th Avenue and Dunbar and extends down to 30th avenue.

Recreation:

The area offers a substantial amount of parkland that allows residents to enjoy the outdoors such as jogging, walking, nature hikes, and dog-walking. There are also several off-leash parks around Dunbar that allow for your dog to enjoy. Dunbar and the Southlands area offer 2.07 hectares of parkland per 1,000 people comparing to the city’s average of 1.12. Therefore, you’ll also have the city’s finest golf courses which adds a positive appeal to the area.
