Point Grey

Point Grey boasts three times the average park per person of anywhere else in the lower mainland.

It’s one of Vancouver’s older neighbourhoods, with many long-time residents. The area is known for two of the city’s very popular beaches: Jericho Beach and Spanish Banks. Both beaches are very well known in the city and have phenomenal views. It’s bordered by Blanca Street on the west, 16th avenue to the south, NW Martine Drive to the north and Alma Street on the east.

Housing:

The first zoning bylaw passed in Point Grey was in 1922 which prevented the development of anything else besides a detached single family home and their related outbuildings. Since then, zoning bylaws have changed, however, most of the homes are still single-family detached homes. Due to the neighborhoods popularity, there has been a push for higher density zoning for its demand. Therefore, you’ll start to see low-rises on main corridors of the area with commercial units below.

Shopping:

Point Grey Village serves as the area’s main shopping district. It’s hosted by mainly local owned businesses that contribute to a village-like atmosphere. 10th Avenue offers multiple retail shopping, local restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shops, and a few upscale fashion boutiques.

Recreation:

The waterfront is lined with beaches that hold beautiful views of the north shore. It also holds the Jericho Sailing Club and the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. The Pacific Spirit Park is also very popular which offers over 55km of trails for nature hikes, jogging, dog walking, horseback riding which spread out over 1,885 acres. The Jericho Arts Centre is connected with the West Point Grey Community Association. It currently holds a 135-seat performance venue located near Jericho Beach. In addition, West Point Grey Community Centre also allows locals to enjoy activities such as tennis, swimming, and summer camps for children within the center.
